Opposition

What is it?

An opposition is a protest from a third party against your trademark registration.

It will typically be based on a claim that your registration is can me confused with that of the third party.

When can an opposition be launched?

Opposition must me launched within three months from the registration of the mark.

When the opposition deadline has passed, the registration can only be changed with a an administrative review, with a higher bar for review.

What will Zipip do?

Zipip will report any opposition, with recommended action at no charge.

If needed, recommended actions will be delivered at a fixed rate.

How scary is it?

At registration, NIPO has already reviewed whether your mark is distinctive, and if it can confused with older registered marks. Without new information, the registration will normally be safe.
